Trier Sept 1st

The ride into Trier continued with the challenging hills and valleys we have become accustomed to. There are some impressive sights in Trier, Germany. Not the least of which was the Porta Nigra built by the Romans 2000 years ago. The is a cathedral, a roman amphitheater and three Roman baths. We are looking forward to easy riding up the Mosel river to Metz, France. We bought bike route maps so we'll be good until we get to Epinal, france. We stayed at a campground from the future and the future is not pretty. There was motion sensors on every light. The showers ran with special key fobs that you could add money to. The key fobs opened every door and gate. It was an oppressive atmosphere like big brother was watching everything and possibly performing experiments on us to see our reactions to doors that won't open or showers that don't get hot.

Us in front of the Porta Nigra.

One of many Elephants scattered about the town.

Other side of the Porta Nigra with all our new friends in the picture.

The ceiling of a big church.

Anyone want to ride the Turkish Mule?

I want one of those things on the side of my house, maybe when we get new windows.

Hazel nuts falling out of the trees.

At the amphitheatre..

Under the floor of the arena of the amphitheater.

One of the exits for the beasts or gladiators.

One of the Roman baths

The gardens

I got an elephant by the ear.

This street reminds us of  El Arco de la Antigua Guatemala.

The Romans used to make wine in this spot, and today is a nice restaurant where they have a great selection of wine.

Another elephant.

There is even an Obama elephant in town.
