Sept 19 Dijon.

Seems like we have been in Dijon for a long time. Almost a week. We even had to go on a day trip to Beaune to fill up our spare time. We're waiting for a train to take us to Marseille they run about once an hour but the cheap one that takes bikes goes at 9:17 on Friday. We aren't really saving any money but we are enjoying Dijon more than you would expect of people who don't like mustard.

In Beaune we tried all the mustard types at the mustard factory, toured all the sights, had a picnic in a spot where we must have ended up in 500 photos and bought an expensive bottle of wine from a big wine cave.

How did we get here? This section is for cyclists we met along the route and want to know about the route we took. From Nancy south to Charms we followed D570 more or less. Very nice road easy riding but more traffic than we like. We switched to the other side of the Moselle and road the path along the Canal d'el Est right into Golbey. The path is great. We followed the path beside the canal to near Bain les Bains and took the road into Bain les Bains. Good path. Took secondary roads to Vesoul, it was cold and rained all day might have been nice don't know for sure.

Took a bike path from Vesoul to Chemilly the path is about 500 meters north of D13 as you leave Vesoul. Going north you would find the path in Chemilly by crossing to the east side of the Saóne 500 meters north of the lock in Chemilly.

The Saóne south of Chemilly is the best. We road the path right into the campground in Gray and recommend the restaurant across the street from the campground. From Gray to Dijon we took a series of side and secondary roads.

A wine tasting cave.

Roof of an old hospital for the poor. The hospital has lots of money because people gave the hospital vineyards back in the day and today the hospitals wine sells for lots of money. The charity work continius in a newer bigger location and the original is a museum.

The had a well too.

The apothecary.

Painting comes with giant magnifier glass right side of photo.

So you can see the detail.

We went to the wine museum. They had some old wines. Maybe no one wanted to drink the one third from the right because it has a dead bat stuck on the top.

They are really old wines.

Out back of the wine museum.

Wine press and barrels

Plan of the town of Beaune including the walls and moats. Most of the real wall is still intact.

We took the photo from where were sitting but everybody else included us in their photos.

I like to dress like a mustard truck.

Yoly hopes our house looks like this when we get back, good luck Hugh!

A wine cave

With some outstanding wine of the region.

This is the first time in 25 years that I paid for a hair cut. You can't tell yet but it turned out great.

Then we visited the Lucky Owl and you can see what a wonderfull hair cut I got.

Lucky

Then we climbed Philip the Good's tower all 478 steps.

And took pictures of Dijon.

Even the gargoyle likes my haircut.

  1. How many euros for a haircut in France? I think it more than I want to pay. I'll try to be suitably coiffed when I get there.
